Morestel, the “city of painters” dominated by a tall medieval tower, is lovely to stroll around. The 11th-century keep overlooking the rooftops of the old town is all that remains of the old castle and today houses temporary exhibitions of contemporary art. The town is also worth a visit for its fantastic viewpoint (with information indicator) over the surrounding countryside, Le Bugey and the Alps. Don't miss wandering around the picturesque narrow streets below where you'll find a Gothic church and the Maison Ravier, which contains a permanent exhibition of works by 18th-century Lyon landscape painter François-Auguste Ravier. The venue was the artist's home for the last 28 years of his life and hosts regular artistic and cultural events.

Morestel

Morestel is a town of about 4 000 inhabitants ideally located at the crossroads of economic poles such as Lyon, Grenoble, Chambéry and Bourg-en-Bresse. This charming locality will not fail to seduce you with its dynamism, its many trade, its heritage, but also its exhibitions.

The old town invites you to explore its alleys around 15th century houses and to appreciate its picturesque atmosphere that enchants the artists. Vestige of an old castle, the tower offers on its belvedere an orientation table which offers a superb view on the roofs of the city, the Bugey and the Alps. Inside the tower, exhibition of paintings and contemporary sculptures.

Its local market on Sunday morning is a treat for the eyes and taste buds.
