In the foothills of the Pyrenees, the village Montségur, 900 m above sea level, located at the bottom of the valley Lasset adopt a plan of rectilinear in "cassock" meaning that all houses village are oriented to sunrise. The village of Montségur now classified village, dates from the 14th century. Originally a family settled near a spring named Orjac always. For several years the village was called for Orjac then take the name of the castle that dominates: Montségur. The village should not be confused with the Cathar village built on the peak Montségur the 13th century and has hosted half a century, the Cathar community. The "castrum" Cathar was also razed after taking Montségur and a new habitat was therefore built at the site of present village of Montségur.
