Located in the heart of the Lot, Occitanie region, the castle of Montcléra is a 15th century building listed as an historic monument. It is located on the site of a first building of the first half of the 14th century, and was at the time the fief of Commarque's family and a lordship founded by the Normans. The latter then passed into the hands of the Girondins and was raised to the rank of marquisate under the reign of Louis XIII.
The architecture we know today dates back to the 15th, 16th and 17th centuries. It is possible to admire an unfinished postern stone, and a slate roof of the second half of the nineteenth century. The machicolations and the walkway were completely restored a few years ago. Its gateway has been classified as an historic monument.
It is possible to discover some of its interiors during the European Heritage Days.
