Things to see and do

If the old village of Montclar is gone, destroyed during the Wars of Religion, the site of Saint-Jean-Montclar still has an interesting heritage in addition to its various activities related to mountain sports.

Built in the early 1970s, the Saint-Jean-Montclar ski resort is the main tourist attraction of the site. Built arcuate, it has an area ranging from 1300 to 2500 meters. The activities are not lacking, including the ability to learn to ski or hiking. The resort is home to many kinds of accommodation between hotels, tourist residences or holiday villages for families. Ice rink, playgrounds for children, or space very well designed services are also available to visitors. In the midst of a unique landscape, the Thirty Glorious style buildings do not clash and instead bring a certain charm to the whole. The station was labeled Mountain Village because of its usability and quality of its facilities. Saint-Jean-Montclar is also Green Station, an ecotourism label France.

Saint-Jean-Montclar also retains the typical architectural heritage that recalls the traditional style of this region of France. Thus can still admire the remains of the castle of Montclar built between 1640 and 1660. He retained the Louis XIV style wood paneling and has two towers covered roofs pepperpot polygonal.

Chapels and churches are spread throughout the town, between the ski resort and the various hamlets of Montclar. We can thus appreciate the charms of St. Michael's Church dating back to 1645, the church of Saint-Léger built in the late thirteenth century and rebuilt in 1830, or the church of La Villette, home to a chasuble linen and wool seventeenth century, listed historical monument.

Walking around Saint-Jean-Montclar, it is possible to admire the ruins of the ancient village of Montclar, completely destroyed during the Wars of Religion. Nearby, Lake Saint-Léger is a very pleasant place to walk, like Fort Dormillouse built in the late nineteenth century.
