Common Channel, in Normandy, Saint-James takes place on the border with Brittany, in the bay of Mont Saint-Michel, in the famous Norman grove. On January 1, 2017, it was formed in new township, with Argouges, Carnet, Cross Avranchin, Montanel, Vergoncey, and Villiers-le-Pré.

Ancient, the city of Saint-James experienced a significant expansion in the eleventh century during the construction of its fortress by the famous William the Conqueror, then Duke of Normandy and King of England. Defensive city until the fifteenth century, Saint-James was also an important cloth city until the eighteenth century, and a stop for pilgrims to Mont Saint-Michel. Theater of many clashes during the Chouannerie, the city today has a quieter face.

Appreciated by visitors for its calm and unique landscape, the city of Saint-James has become famous around the world for its famous knitting, recognized as a Living Heritage Company in 2013.

Built in the 15th century, the Saint-Jacques church has a triforium and a Romanesque portal. Inside, it is possible to admire a Virgin and Child from the fourteenth century listed as an Historical Monument.

The Château de la Paluelle, built in the 15th century as well, was listed as an historic monument along with its park. Today owned by a descendant of the family of The Hague-Saint-Hilaire, it still dominates the valley of Beuvron. Its huge park is home to a world-class jumping every year.

While strolling in the city rewarded with three flowers in the contest of the cities and flowered villages of France, you will also be able to discover a portal of the 13th century at the entrance of the cemetery, or the Polissoir, a megalithic polisher of Saint-Benoît dating from 4,000 years BC and classified as an historic monument.

Do not miss the 19th century St. Benedict's church, or the fossil site of the former Saint-James fortress.

Hikers and cyclists paradise, the town of Saint-James has several marked trails along rivers and lakes such as Beuvron, Sélune, or the Lac de la Roche drinking. The sites are perfect to enjoy sunny days and organize a picnic with friends.
