Mézos is a small village in southwestern located in the Landes, in the middle of a pine forest of 9000 hectares, less than 15 km from the beaches of the Atlantic Ocean.

Nestled in the heart of the Landes forest, Mézos is a haven of peace where peace, tranquility and outdoor activities available to you.

The town is mentioned in the middle of the twelfth century with the presence of the Saint-Jean-Baptiste church, rebuilt in the fourteenth century. The latter is listed as a historic monument.

Mézos is a tourist town, located 15 minutes from the Aureilhan Lake and the beaches of Mimizan, where water sports abound.

Things to see and do

The village of Mézos invites you to discover its natural heritage thanks to its ideal location on the Côte d'Argent, in the heart of the Landes forest.

Leaving the village, you can go hiking in particular.

The PDIPR path of Mézos, with a distance of 10.2 km, laid out by the Landes General Council, allows you to discover a wide variety of landscapes criss-crossed by waterways. You can also admire traditional Landes houses and the village church.

The Courlis interpretation trail, which runs along the river of the same name, allows you to discover the fauna and flora that make it up. This 2 km hiking trail offers a pleasant walk in the middle of nature, ideal for families.

The connected path "From the farmhouse to the factory" offers several sites of interest to relive the major transformations in the life of sharecroppers with the arrival of factories, such as the Dino property, the Courlis, the castle of Castéja, or even the village and the departure to the factory.

The village also has a nautical base located next to the Courlis river. Open all year round, you can practice canoeing. Mézos also has a tennis club.

On the architectural heritage side, we find the Saint-Jean-Baptiste church built in "garluche" (Landes stone) and its bell tower covered with chestnut shingles, which dominates the village.

The Argileyres fountain dedicated to Sainte-Rose is located in the heart of the pine forest. Its source, thanks to its sulphurous waters, would have the ability to cure skin diseases.

Since 2016, Mézos has been lucky enough to have on its soil, the only music-hall cabaret in the Landes, "le Mirage". In a chic and baroque setting, extraordinary and magical shows are scheduled all year round. In July and August, shows more suitable for young audiences take place twice a week, on Monday and Wednesday evenings. By reservation only on the cabaret website.

Events and festivities

In May, in honor of Saint Honoré, patron saint of bakers, organized the feast of bread rural home Mézos, with demonstration of all the stages of making bread, the choice flour for baking in an oven traditional, followed by a tasting of the manufacture of the day on the church square.

Mézos village comes alive in summer with evening markets in July and August. In the program, discovering local products: preserves, honey, foie gras, floc de Gascogne and many other specialties of the region. The evening continues with a picnic and a free ball.

During the summer, organizes the Days Mézos Tourism in Rural Area (Days TER), including discovery workshops and entertainment for children in the heart of a barnyard, as well as farm visits: asparagus, corn and chicken Landes free, market gardening and tasting products.
