Méru

Built at the end of the 11th century and heavily modified until the end of the 17th century, the Saint-Lucien church is characterized by an important mixture of architectural styles. One can thus admire a Renaissance aisle in the south, a base of Romanesque bell-tower revamped in the Gothic period, or even, inside, corrugated pillars of flamboyant Gothic style. There is hardly anything left of the Romanesque period, outside the old bell tower. Among the furnishings, it is possible to admire four objects classified to the Historic Monuments, three sculpted statues and the file of the old bench. Also listed, the sculpted ensemble representing the Education of the Virgin by Saint Anne of the sixteenth century is one of the most beautiful French and Flemish productions of the time. Made in the 16th century, the Entombment is a polychrome limestone work representing a tomb and six independent statues. In Lardières, in the neighboring hamlet, you can also discover the church of the Virgin built in the 12th century.

From the old castle of Méru burned down in the middle of the eighteenth century, there remains only one vestige, the Conti tower.

The museum of mother-of-pearl and tabletteries traces the history of this important industry which made the golden age of Méru. Opened in the late 1990s, the site is housed in an old 19th century factory and features beautiful collections of buttons, fans, missels, billiard balls and paper documents.

The market is held on Fridays and Sundays in the morning. The town also offers a Christmas market with entertainment at the end of the year. An autumn fair is offered at the beginning of October.

In April, the Easter celebrations, ancestral tradition, reveal their parade of chariots and their colorful animations.

A martial arts festival is held in October, featuring demonstrations of different martial arts offered by athletes from around the world.
