Commune of Haute-Saône, Mélisey takes place in the Burgundy-Franche-Comté region, at the foot of the Vosges Saônoises. It is located nine kilometers from Lure, and about fifteen kilometers from Luxeuil-les-Bains. The city is also a member of the Ballons des Vosges Regional Nature Park.

Occupied from the early Middle Ages, Mélisey was an important commercial town in the 15th century, before becoming a textile industrial city as early as the 19th century. If this economy declines in the middle of the 20th century, the municipality has retained many vestiges.

Proud of its heritage and preserved nature, the commune of Mélisey still has a real tourist interest today. Between the period buildings and the preserved natural areas, there is no shortage of sites to discover during a stay in the region.

Things to see and do

Classified as Historic Monuments for its oldest remains, the Church of Saints Peter and Paul is one of the most beautiful monuments of the commune of Mélisey. It is divided into two parts, a first, medieval and a second built in the course of the nineteenth century. The oldest elements date back to the 11th and 12th centuries, and there are also two monolithic sarcophagi found during archaeological excavations. You will appreciate in particular the Romanesque bell tower, as well as the neo-Gothic style nave.

As you walk through Mélisey, you can also discover a flour and oil mill rebuilt in the first half of the 19th century, the Grand Pont, reconstructed in stone in the 19th century, or vestiges of the great industrial era The commune. Do not miss the textile factory transformed into housing, the hardware factory, or the old spinning mill of silk, they are all listed in the inventory of industrial heritage.

A member of the Ballons des Vosges Regional Nature Park, the Haute-Saône county has exceptional landscapes to discover the time of hikes or simple walks. Let yourself be seduced by the plateau of the Mille Étangs or by the valley of the Ognon. Natural curiosities of Mélisey, the strange erratic blocks of the Baverey Granges are to be admired during your stay. The latter were carried by the glacier that once covered the region. Enthusiasts can go hiking, horseback riding, donkey riding or cycling.
