Marzy - Tourism, holidays & weekends guide in the Nièvre
7.4
1

Municipality of Nièvre, in the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region, Marzy takes place only a few kilometers from Nevers, at the confluence of the Allier and the Loire. It is located not far from Fourchambault, Saint-Eloi and Jouet-sur-l'Aubois.

Populated since Antiquity, the territory of Marzy has undergone many name changes over the centuries before taking the one we know today. The ancient Ecclessia de Marsiaco was once known for its now abandoned wine-growing activity, the vines of which have been withdrawn.

Full of charm, the small town remains appreciated for the beauty of its landscapes, as much as for its authenticity and its culture to be discovered through the museums on site.

Things to see and do

Romanesque in architecture, the Saint-André church is accessible every day to the public, who can admire a 12th century chevet and tower, as well as magnificent furniture. You will be able to discover a statue of Saint Christopher in limestone from the 15th century, a beam of glory and a Christ from the 15th century or a painted stone statue from the 16th century classified as a Historic Monument and representing Saint Roch, an angel and a dog.

As you stroll around the rest of the town, you can also discover the charms of the Saint-Baudière chapel. Built on an old Romanesque church of which it has preserved the choir, the building once belonged to a larger group and is unfortunately not accessible to the public inside. However, the site presents a very beautiful panorama of the town and its surroundings.

Do not miss the wash houses scattered throughout the town, before going to admire the exteriors of the Château du Monceau or visit the Gautron-du-Coudray museum. Originally devoted to natural history and minerals, the museum, which owes its name to a local scholar and collector, now presents the history and culture of yesteryear through a large collection of everyday objects.

Several hiking trails are also accessible in the surroundings, especially for exploring the Bec d'Allier.
