Old town of Maine-et-Loire, in the Pays de la Loire Martigné-Briand became a delegate common new common Terranjou on 1 January 2017. It takes place near Doue La Fontaine in the wine appellation Coteaux-du-Layon, in the Saumur region.
Inhabited since prehistoric times, as evidenced by the megalith that still stands proudly on the site, the town of Martigné-Briand is developed in the Middle Ages, falling at the time of the chatellery Montreuil-Bellay. Walled in the sixteenth century, it is illustrated in history at the time of the Vendée war in the eighteenth century, with the famous battle of Martigne-Briand. She sees the Republican troops crushed by the Vendeans in July 1793.
A viticultural area that produces several wines of great interest, Martigné-Briand is also an important tourist site with its architectural heritage and authentic landscapes.
