Appointed by the end of the twelfth century, the town of Marsac-sur-l'Isle took its current name in 1960 to distinguish its many homonyms in the territory. Full of charm, it benefits from always influenced by its neighbor rich Perigueux, offering an idyllic setting for visitors looking to experience the beauty of this region of southwestern France.

Things to see and do

Included in the supplementary inventory of historical monuments, the Saint-Saturnin church was built on the foundations of an ancient Merovingian building. Charming small Romanesque church of the twelfth century, it was partially transformed in the fifteenth. A single nave, it presents an axis inclined to the left as many other religious buildings in the Perigord. Particularly admire its square base tower supported by a cupola.

Built in the early nineteenth century, the lock of the Rock was originally part of a set of forty-one sluice locks. In operation until the early 1940s, it was restored in the late 1990s and became a popular place to walk. Not far away, it is particularly possible to appreciate the island of La Roche with its large expanses of greenery that lend themselves to linger.

Walking through the town, you can also enjoy Castle Bernardoux nineteenth century that hosts the current town hall, the castle of Marsac, the Chambon nineteenth century manor or castle Saltgourde with its adjoining golf.

Curiosity has brought fame to the town, intermittent fountain experiencing irregular flow since ancient times from one to two liters per second in ten to twenty liters per second without knowing why. The fountain wash also worth a visit.

Nature lovers and old stones enjoy discovering on their way Panlaire the stone, or stele of the Bard, the Mecca of World War II memory.
