The castle of Marigny is located in the eponymous town of Marigny, in Saône-et-Loire, about ten kilometers east of Montceau-les-Mines.
Located at the top of a hill, south of the village, it marked the boundary between the Duchy of Burgundy and the County of Charolais.
A first castle is mentioned as early as 1104 which belonged to the lords of Marigny until 1370. Ruined in the middle of the 16th century, in particular because of the troubles that mark the history of the region, only the original dungeon, equipped with geminated trilobed bays. The estate will nevertheless be reconstituted in the 19th century with the addition of new buildings.
Nowadays, it has a U-shaped plan but with uneven return wings.
On the "east" side, the main building is attached to a crenellated keep connected to a corner turret by a gallery. A square tower housed the access passage via a drawbridge.
Furthermore, the medieval dungeon is preserved, except for the work.
Despite what may appear to be a disparate and somewhat austere architecture, the estate retains a proud appearance. It cannot hide its military origins despite the 19th century additions.
Listed in the Inventory, the property remains private and is not open to the public. Its exteriors can punctuate a walk in the bucolic countryside surrounding the town.
