Built on the site of a sacred spring, the Saint-Gilles church in Malestroit stands on the remains of a first chapel. This 12th century Romanesque building, partly rebuilt in the 16th century following a fire, still has some original elements, including a south transept, a double nave, stained glass windows and statues.
Completely restored in the 2010s, the Saint-Gilles church in Malestroit has recovered its vault paintings. Dating from the 13th century, they represent a one-horned feline, a fighting elephant and a centaur.
The building is open to visitors every day between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.
