A very beautiful building from the end of the 19th century, the Rhône prefecture hotel is now listed as a Historic Monument. Work of Antonin Louvier, it was built in its time to replace the old prefecture which had become too cramped.
The Hôtel de Préfecture du Rhône, known for having been the scene of the assassination of President Sadi Carnot in 1894, has a large double spiral staircase, a presidential bedroom, as well as several lounges with original decorations.
