Loures-Barousse is a village in the Hautes-Pyrénées, in the Occitanie region, 18 km southwest of Saint-Gaudens.
The territory of the municipality, of a modest area (2 km 2), is located in the middle mountain (around 450 m altitude), and runs along the left bank of the Garonne river, the river forming precisely the limit with the department of Haute-Garonne.
Door of the natural region of Barousse, formed around the valley of the Ourse, tributary of the Garonne, the site of Loures-Barousse is inhabited since the Neolithic but the village is really created in the thirteenth century and takes off truly in the nineteenth thanks to the proximity of the spa of Barbazan and the creation of the railway linking Paris to Bagneres-de-Luchon.
Its green environment, its leisure offer and the vicinity of another major site, Saint-Bertrand-de-Comminges, with its basilica, famous stop on the way to Saint-Jacques, make Loures-Barousse (which has about 630 inhabitants) a nice stopover during a stay in the region.
In terms of heritage, the church of Saint-Roch is the jewel of the village. It was rebuilt in the early twentieth century but houses some sacred art transferred from the previous building: statues depicting a Virgin and Child of the fourteenth, a Christ on the cross of the seventeenth, Saint-Blaise (XV) or an 18th century painting. The sacristy cupboard and the seat reserved for the celebrant, works by the Rogel family, are also to be seen.
In addition to some houses with "reuse" elements dating from the Roman era, certainly from Saint-Bertrand-de-Comminges, it is the so-called Palouma farm which is the oldest building of the town (Louis period XIII). The interior is home to remarkable fireplaces.
Concerning the sports and leisures "nature", the locality puts at the disposal of the visitors and vacationers a zone of picnic, tennis courts, a bowling alley, a skate-park, a course of health and an astonishing course "aqua-branch ". Number of hikes including the wooded surroundings of the village or plots still dedicated to pastoralism, the banks of the Garonne, and possibly including incursions to nearby sites, including Barbazan, are available.
