Built by the princes of Talmont in the fifteenth century Protestant leader Soubise seized the castle in 1622 and it had built fortifications. Garrison under Louis XIII, bombed in 1796 by the Anglo-Dutch, acquired by the state in 1835 and restored in 1986-1994, the castle now houses the Museum of the Sea.
The tower of Arundel is part of the defensive system of the St. Clair castle. The first fire was installed in 1593. In the eighteenth century the fire of Thatch is the only lighthouse Vendee. Its present form is the result of restoration work made from 1857 to 1858. During your visit to the Museum of the Sea in April to September, enjoy the privilege of access to the top of the tower: panoramic view of the Bay of Les Sables-d Olonne.
