The commune of Martres-de-Veyre is located in the department of Puy-de-Dôme, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, 15 km south-east of Clermont-Ferrand.
Its 9 km ² territory ranges from 323 to 500 m altitude, crossed from west to east by the Veyre (also known as the Monne) which flows into the Allier, which constitutes the eastern limit of the locality.
The village developed in the 12th century on a hill, at the junction of these two valleys, dominated by small peaks and surrounded by a green countryside, dotted with springs.
These rivers have allowed the development of inland waterway transport which was replaced by the railroad in the 19th century, the vineyards and orchards of Martres-de-Veyre having built up the reputation of the city for centuries.
The failure to set up a spa at the start of the 20th century was compensated by the creation of units specializing in trimmings, sulfur refinery and even the manufacture of baby bottles.
Since the second half of the 20th century, the town has also benefited from the growth of the Clermont agglomeration. There are now 4000 inhabitants there, benefiting from a pleasant living environment and a range of leisure activities that can also appeal to visitors.
