The Château de la Tour du Pin is located in the commune of Bois d'Anjou, in Maine-et-Loire, 35 km east of Angers.
Located to the north of the town, in the old village of Fontaine-Guérin which merged in 2016 with Brion and Saint-Georges-du-Bois, the estate is in ruins. It had been built from the 13th century and then remodeled several times until the 18th century.
Beneath a hill, the complex comprised a 20 m frontage dwelling with towers equipped with loopholes. The remains still visible (elements of towers, elements of defence) suggest a building with a military and defensive vocation that has, however, benefited over the centuries from embellishment work.
The assumption which prevails on the historical plan is that the castle would have undergone important damages during the Hundred Years War and that it would never have really recovered neither its luster nor its strategic importance.
However, in a particularly bucolic setting, the ruins of this medieval fortress (listed in the Inventory) can give a romantic character to a walk to the northeast of the new town which also has other castles better preserved… Information +33 2 41 54 73 95.
