Le Marigot

Tourism, holidays & weekends guide in the Martinique

A commune on the Atlantic coast of Martinique, Le Marigot extends between Le Lorrain and Sainte-Marie. Created at the end of the 19th century, it owes its fame to the Lorrain factory created at the same time and in operation until 1955.

After developing tobacco cultivation, fishing, then the sugar industry, the town of Marigot is today focused on tourism. A true haven of peace and tranquility, it attracts tourists wishing to spend a peaceful holiday in an authentic place rich in magnificent landscapes.

Although its beach is not authorized for swimming due to strong currents, it remains a popular spot for surfers from all over the world.

Things to see and do

Le Marigot is a place loved by lovers of outdoor living and sports of all kinds. Surfers will head towards the beach, while hikers can take the path along the coast to Pain de Sucre.

Don't forget to go to the Lorrain river, ideal for swimming.

An emblematic figure of the town, the Quai du Marigot remains the favorite place for fishermen. It formerly served to connect the town to those of Trinité and Fort-de-France. It offers stunning views of the city and the ocean. The panoramic view of Anse Charpentier and Pain de Sucre from the Bellevue viewpoint is also a must-see in the small Martinique town.

Before leaving for other countries, let yourself be seduced by Fort Napoléon. Built in the mid-19th century, it formerly served as a penitentiary before becoming a museum of history and popular traditions. The gardens reveal endangered endemic plants as well as intriguing green iguanas that wander peacefully.
