Le Châtelard is the capital of the canton of the same name.
In the heart of the Bauges (Savoie, Regional Natural Park), the Châtelard is a mountain village of 649 inhabitants. Its old town is visible from a distance, perched on an ice bolt that serves as border between the "front Bauges" (east) and "Bauges behind" (west).
The village's history is closely linked to its status as capital of Canton, the country's agricultural tradition and small local businesses.
