By choosing to spend your holidays in Caylar (alt. 760 m), you opt to stay halfway between the mountains and countryside, exotic, sport or just relaxing.
The Castel Roc, overlooking the village of Caylar, is the remains of Castellas (castle) dated 12th century and home to the Notre-Dame du Roc Castel also dated 12th century and completely restored. You can admire the natural dolomites that were constituent parts of the old fortifications of Caylar. The first traces of occupation of the site date back to the Iron Age. Carolingian houses (before the 10th century) can still be observed. Some date from the Renaissance are still inhabited. From the top of Castel Rock, you can admire the wonderful panorama that covers the eye the southern Larzac.
But Le Caylar, although looking very withdrawn, however, is only 40 minutes from Montpellier and 20 minutes from Millau, or 18 km from Lodève! Access to the A75 is indeed the direct output of the village of Caylar.
Le Caylar is constantly evolving and expanding its resources in all areas of village life, including the opening and maintenance of various shops, as well as the presence of a post office, a library and health professionals.
In summer, many activities are planned, such as the Castel Roc festival that lasts 10 days in August, and flea markets in mid-July and mid August each year. In September, a mountain bike race, The Tour Larzac Sheep, brings together hundreds of participants on beautiful courses from 12 to 105 km.
