Bordered by the Dordogne, Le Buisson-de-Cardouin took off when the railway was installed there. Green station, the town is a place of discovery and vacation unique in its kind. Between diving in the Dordogne, hiking in the Bessède forest or discovering the historical heritage, the days are busy. The history of the village was born from the successive merger of several surrounding villages such as Paleyrac with its diversity of authentic habitats, fountains and washhouses, Cadouin classified by its abbey as a UNESCO heritage site, Cussac with its very beautiful 12th century church. century and its decorated cave discovered in 2000. It is therefore between old stones, unusual caves and exceptional nature that your stay will take place.
Among the must-see places, you absolutely must visit the caves of Maxange, also called cave of the stars. The image speaks for itself, you will dive into a cave with a starry sky through beautiful limestone growths. The cave of Cussac is also very beautiful, but unfortunately is not open to the public. Then comes the time to discover the treasures of the past. And for that, head to Cadouin where a Cistercian abbey awaits you, partly listed as a Historic Monument and listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site as a stopover on the way to Santiago de Compostela. A striking mix of Romanesque and flamboyant Gothic art awaits you. Group visits can be arranged.
The village of Cadouin has other surprises in store for you, such as its hall, which is also classified as a Historic Monument and which alone deserves a visit. The walk continues with the discovery of the Saint-Barthélémy-de-Salles church, also classified as a Historic Monument. You can also admire the Saint-Pierre-ès-liens de Caban church, listed as a Historic Monument. After the places of worship, it is the mansions and old buildings that line up to delight your eyes.
To relax, there's nothing like a little tour on the banks of the Dordogne. For this, you can settle on the beach of Pont de Vicq which will allow you to enjoy all the nautical activities. Please note that swimming is not supervised.
For an exotic stroll, the Planbuisson garden welcomes you in the middle of a bamboo forest. It is in 1.5 hectares of exceptional nature that you will have the opportunity to stroll.
A few kilometers away, you will also discover the magnificent village of Limeuil at the confluence of the Dordogne and Vézère rivers as well as its panoramic garden which offers a breathtaking view!
The villages of Beaumont, Montferrand-du-Périgord, Molières and the magnificent bastide of Monpazier will also delight you. So many beautiful authentic places to discover not far from the town!
- Every Friday evening from mid-June to mid-September, the gourmet market takes place at Buisson-de-Cadouin. In the evening, come and do your shopping!
- On the 2nd Friday of March, the Saint-Vivien fair opens its doors. This very famous cattle fair always attracts many visitors. A second edition takes place on the 2nd Friday of October under the name of the Saint-Firmin fair.
- At the beginning of August, Estivalivre is the Buisson-de-Cadouin book festival. Meetings with authors, publishers and illustrators are on the program, but also readings and events are planned throughout the day.
