Small village of Dordogne, in the purple Perigord, Lamonzie-Montastruc is a classified site located not far from Bergerac, about forty kilometers from Périgueux. The town takes place in lush greenery, near Lalinde.

The city takes its name from a convent of monks once located on site. The first mentions of the village date back to the 13th century, but remains found on the spot made it possible to affirm that the territory was populated at the time of the Paleolithic inferior. Merged with the former district of Villebois district during the French Revolution, it is still appreciated by tourists for its rich historical and architectural heritage, but also for its proximity to some of the most beautiful sites in the region.

Lovers of gastronomy will also appreciate the local culinary specialties, mainly made with duck.

Things to see and do

Listed as a Historical Monument, Bellegarde Castle is located on a hill in the village and was built in the 14th century. Restored in the 19th and 20th centuries, it still has a medieval door and a Renaissance pavilion. Its park, designed by Gabriel Perdoux, as well as its dovecotes, are also registered with the Historical Monuments.

Fief of the family of Abzac de la Douze, the castle of Montastruc dates from the fourteenth century. Shaved, it is rebuilt in the second half of the 15th century and is now listed as an historic monument. Located on a rock sheltering troglodyte constructions, it also presents stables, vestiges of barn, dovecote and an oratory.

While strolling in the commune, you will also be able to appreciate the Neolithic deposit of Lestenac, the vestiges of the prefectural Gallo-Roman villa with the thermal baths or an aqueduct, or the manor of Monsac and the chartreuse of the Fourtonie built in the 18th century.

Very popular, the forest of Monclard offers beautiful trails for walks with family or friends.
