La Trinité is a town in the Alpes-Maritimes in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region, northeast of Nice, bordering it.
The territory of the municipality extends from the banks of the Paillon where its urbanized part has developed, notably with zones of activities that took off in the 20th century, as far as La Turbie in the east, overlooking the Moyenne Corniche and the coastal towns of Villefranche-sur-Mer, Eze, Cap d'Ail and even the confines of the Principality of Monaco.
The population of La Trinité increased in the twentieth century (1 500 inhabitants in 1901, 2500 in 1946 and just over 10 000 today) but the historical and natural heritage of the municipality has been preserved, crossed by the A8 motorway linking France and Italy, whose altitude reaches 700 m. An area included in the Grande Corniche Departmental Natural Park.
La Trinité which was created in 1818 (it was until then a simple hamlet dependent on Eze), was first called La Trinité-Victor in honor of the King of Sardinia, before becoming simply La Trinité in 1951.
We will gladly make a stopover during a stay on the Riviera.
In the heart of the old village now included in the urban fabric of the agglomeration of Nice or in the confines of the steep territory of the town, several heritage elements are worth a visit.
This is the case of the sanctuary of Our Lady of Laghet. With a bulb roof, it includes a primitive chapel restored in 1625, with baroque decoration, with a statue of the Virgin dating from this period, called the Virgin of the Prodigies. In 1652, the Virgin performed many miracles, which immediately attracted many pilgrims. A sanctuary was built and ex-votos began to be affixed to the walls. Since 1978, the reception of the sanctuary has been provided by the Benedictines of the Sacred Heart of Montmartre, installed in the priory of Notre-Dame-de-Laghet. The site is also worth for the amazing museum that constitute the ex-voto. Information on +33 4 92 41 50 50.
In the city center, the church of the Most Holy Trinity dates from 1848. The building now classified is triangular in shape and is inspired by the Gran Madre di Dio in Turin. Its architecture takes up the theme of the Holy Trinity: three apses each have four columns and the whole refers to the 12 apostles.
Also worth seeing is the monument of the bicentenary of the French Revolution, on the roundabout of the Friends of Liberty. The building consists of a column of marble adorned with tricolor streaks.
The statue of Oreste and Minerva, signed by the sculptor Hugoulin, dating from 1879, is also on the Rue du Chateau. It was offered to the city of Nice and adorned the courtyard of the Hôtel de Ville until 1956 and was then sold to La Trinité in 1959. Composed of three blocks of white marble, the work depicts Adonis and Minerva.
