In the town of La Tour-sur-Orb, at the foot of Mount Muratou, still proudly stands the Church of Saint-Xist, a vestige of a former priory which once took place on the site. Built between the 12th and 13th centuries, it was originally an outbuilding of the Villemagne abbey.
The church dates from the end of the 13th century and takes the form of a single nave covered with a broken barrel vault and reinforced by three double arches and a flat apse. Transformed in the second half of the 14th century, it then saw its walls raised and equipped with sorts of defensive loopholes. Completely ransacked during the French Revolution, it was recovered from its ruins in the first half of the 19th century, still revealing today its mixture of Gothic and Romanesque styles and its hanging bell tower listed as Historic Monuments.
At the foot of the religious building, it is also possible to walk through an incredible botanical garden, a beautiful garden of herbs and medicinal plants as the monks of yesteryear cultivated them.
