La Rochepot

A 12th century building remodeled in the 15th century and restored in the 19th century, the castle of La Rochepot now benefits from registration and classification as a Historic Monument. Former property of Sadi Carnot, this fortified castle in the neo-Gothic-Burgundian style seduces in particular with the very beautiful glazed Burgundy tiles that adorn its roof. Visible from the outside, it is not accessible to visitors.

While passing through La Rochepot, don't miss the 12th century Notre-Dame-de-la-Nativité church. Listed as a Historic Monument, this Romanesque building has a bell tower rebuilt in the Renaissance surmounted by a 19th century spire. Originally the property of a Benedictine priory founded by monks from the Saint-Pierre de Flavigny-sur-Ozerain abbey, the church still reveals a Romanesque portal visible in the masonry of the north wall of the aisle, remains of the original convent buildings.

Before a tour of the vineyards of the town, you can also discover the covered alley of La Chaume, witness to the prehistoric occupation of the Burgundian city.
