Fourth city of Savoy, La Motte-Servolex stands at the foot of the Jura mountains and extends on their slope to culminate on the summits of the chain of the Thorn. Various rivers descending from the mountains cross the town to finish their race in the Leysse, an alpine river skirting the territory.
Neighbor of Chambéry, the city was born from the union of two parishes in 1794: La Motte-Montfort and Servolex. La Motte-Montfort is at the origin of the town. It is on a rocky spur that came to build the church Saint-Jean-Baptiste. Then, a priory was born and finally the village began to develop at their foot. Servolex was already well before a parish included in that of La Motte-Montfort. The nineteenth century will be the scene of devastating floods on the town despite the drainage work undertaken. The twentieth century, meanwhile, will be the moment when a complete development of the city center is decided. The works take place from 1990.
