Located on the banks of the Creuse, in Indre-et-Loire, the castle of La Guerche is a fine example of 15th century architecture. Listed as an historic monument, it takes place on the remains of an old medieval fortress from the 11th century.
Looted in the 16th century by Protestant troops, it underwent a major transformation in the 17th century under the influence of its current owner, César d'Aumont, then governor of Touraine.
A hunting lodge in the 18th century, the castle of La Guerche was partly demolished under the Terror, before undergoing a restoration campaign. A private home, it is now owned by the De Crouy-Chanel family.
