La Godivelle

Largely built in the 12th century, the Saint-Blaise church underwent several transformations during the 19th century, today unveiling a fine example of Auvergne Romanesque art. In freestone assembled in a very large device and covered with slate, the building is particularly appreciated for its Romanesque bedside topped by a cornice with incredible modillions representing deadly sins. Inside, lovers of religious art will appreciate the 17th century Virgin and Child representing Notre-Dame-des-Lacs-de-La-Godivelle.

On the church square, it is possible to admire the largest fountain in the department, which in the past allowed around thirty animals to drink at the same time in order to simplify the work of the shepherds.

But it is mainly for its natural heritage that the city of La Godivelle is appreciated by visitors. Many marked hiking trails allow visitors to visit the Sagnes nature reserve which covers nearly twenty-five hectares. In addition to a very rich fauna and flora, walkers can admire the Lake d'En-Bas or the Coualle Basse peat bog.
