The castle of La Celle-Guenand is located in the town of the same name, in Indre-et-Loire, 20 km south-west of Châtillon-sur-Indre.
The current building was built in the 15th century on the foundations of a fortress which was until then the seat of a seigniory facing that of La Celle-Draon. The two strongholds will be grouped together in 1570 by René de Coutance.
Previously, Lord Antoine de Guenand had built a castle following a U-shaped plan, framed by four round towers, and protected by a square tower with watchtowers and drawbridge and surrounded by moats.
The complex had underground passages which served as a refuge during the disturbances and which were still used by the population during the Second World War.
At the end of the 15th century, an entrance gatehouse was added, linked to the dwelling by a gallery, outbuildings and a dovecote.
The castle will be regularly remodeled and enlarged over the centuries until the Revolution.
In the meantime, a staircase in the fortified tower replaces the drawbridge and the châtelet is transformed into a stable. In the 19th and early 20th centuries, new outbuildings were built, a new gate was installed and greenhouses with metal frames were installed in the park.
Today, the complex has retained a lot of character despite the modifications made in the 18th and 19th centuries, elements of military architecture having been preserved on certain facades and around the vast castle.
Listed in the Inventory, private property, the castle of La Celle-Guenand housed until recently guest rooms and reception rooms.
