- Located 15 km northwest of Nîmes, the village of La Calmette overlooking the surrounding scrubland.

- Already occupied by the Romans in the first centuries AD, La Calmette quickly embraced Christianity in late antiquity. Victim of frequent foreign attacks, it acquires a high with a tower and a wall.
- The Calmettte becomes the property of the King of France during the Crusade against the Albigensians. In the thirteenth century, the manor was exchanged by Philip the Fair, to Gaucelin, Lord of Uzes.
- During the Wars of Religion, Fort La Calmette is the challenge of constant struggles between Catholics and Protestants.
- Today, viticulture and agriculture are the two strengths of the local economy. Camargue traditions are regularly celebrated in the context of abrivados or ferrades.
