La Balme-de-Sillingy

Commune of Haute-Savoie, La Balme-de-Sillingy takes place between 457 and 923 meters of altitude, only about ten kilometers from the city of Annecy. Close to the Mandallaz mountain, it is mainly known for its lake.

The town of La Balme-de-Sillingy takes its name from the Savoyard, meaning cave, and from the town of Sillingy located not far. Quite ancient, the mountain city occupied a human occupation in 3340 BC, and was also an oppidum in the Gallo-Roman era.

La Balme-de-Sillingy is best known for its lake, accessible for hiking for beautiful family walks or as a lover.

Former residence of Counts of Geneva, the castle of La Balme or Cosengier dates from the fourteenth century. The building underwent modifications in the 16th century and one can still admire the vestiges of a strong house.
