L'Île-d'Olonne is part of the agglomeration of Sables-d'Olonne. It is 10 km from Les Sables-d'Olonne.
This village was inhabited in the Bronze Age, tools were found. Under the Roman occupation, salt marshes are created as well as vineyards. In the 5th century, Saint Martin de Vertou evangelises the island of Olonne and we find the traces of a first church around 950, reign of King Capetian Robert II of France called Robert the Pious... The Normans settled on the region and have built some mound castres. The wars, that they are of One hundred years, religion or vendéennes, did not touch this borough.
The church is from the thirteenth century and has as patron the monk evangelizer Saint Martin de Vertou.
Small quiet village where life is good, with pleasant walks in the marshes and in the forest of Olonne.
