Located in the Lower Rhine, in Alsace, the castle of Kintzheim takes place in a commune known since the 6th century as the Regis Villa. It was indeed at the time the center of the vast domain of the Merovingian kings.
The castle itself began its construction in the mid-thirteenth century on the orders of Emperor Frederick II Hohenstaufen. The main building dates back to the fourteenth and fifteenth century.
Partly destroyed by the Swedes in the first half of the seventeenth century, the castle of Kintzheim gradually falls into disuse, especially after the French Revolution. Its ruins, classified with the Historical Monuments, welcome since the end of the years 1960 the flight of the eagles. This is an opportunity to discover a show of endangered birds of prey in a unique setting.
The English park that surrounds the castle was created in the early nineteenth century and is now ranked Remarkable Garden. It presents visitors with over a hundred remarkable trees.
