Joux-la-Ville is a village in the Yonne, in the Burgundy-Franche-Comté region, 35 km south-east of Auxerre.
The territory of the present commune, where traces of ancient houses were discovered, was first divided into two parishes, depending on the counties of Noyers for one, from Auxerre for the other.
In the eleventh century, a hermitage was founded that adopted the Cistercian rule and settled permanently in the nearby valley of Cure, Reigny.
With fortifications in the sixteenth century, the town is fully reunited after the Revolution and develops through the exploitation of surrounding forests and flourishing agriculture.
Counting a little over 1,200 inhabitants, rich in a diverse historical and natural heritage, Joux-la-Ville is worth the detour.
Discover the historical heritage of the locality can begin with its church of the Nativity of Notre Dame, listed as a Historic Monument, built in the late fifteenth century and enlarged in the following century by the addition of a collateral and a new choir. Of particular note are the elegant double-leaf Gothic Gothic portal and the various roofing materials (slate, tiles and limestone lava), restored in 2004. The 16th-century square tower, the Renaissance-style choir and carved stalls of the 18th century still enrich the interior of the church.
In the village, besides the presbytery and the school whose bases are of the eighteenth century, many elements of small heritage (cross, laundry, fountain) can mark a walk. On the other hand, there is no trace of the ancient fortifications, whose materials were used to build new houses...
At the discretion of the hamlets attached to the town, to see also, the remains of the castle of Talant and those of an enclosure, in a locality Sentier des Testons. Finally, in Oudun, an old barn of the 12th century is also visible.
