The Figures tower is located in the town of Issy-les-Moulineaux, in the Hauts-de-Seine, south-west of Paris, near the Porte de Saint-Cloud.
This is a 24 m high monumental sculpture established in 1988 on the park of Île Saint-Germain, which includes six gardens and is intended to be a symbol of the victory of the environment over the urban world..
The artist Jean Dubuffet (1901-1985) produced the model in 1967.
The work has a reinforced concrete frame and its outer shell is made up of 90 resin panels. It symbolizes the imaginary world of the artist, during his Hourloupe period, with black graphics on a white background enhanced with red and blue.
Designed to be visited from the inside, the tower was listed in 2015, the year it was acquired by the department. The route is as singular as the sculpture: the visitor must indeed walk as he would in the mountains, on slippery ground where the steps are painted in trompe l'oeil. There is no ramp either…
Near the tower, a reception area provides a different approach to the work through exhibitions and screenings, as well as a virtual visit. Specific attention is reserved for young audiences.
Visit of the tower on weekends from March to October only by reservation via the website. Prices: 6 and 8 euros.
Free access on the same dates and periods for the reception area.
