Situated about fifteen kilometers from Paris, Igny is a commune in the department of Essonne in the Ile-de-France region. It takes place in the heart of the natural region of Hurepoix, in the valley of the Bièvre. Not far away are the towns of Evry, Massy, Jouy-en-Josas and Chilly-Mazarin.
Former Gallo-Roman villa, the town of Igny develops in the course of the thirteenth century with the construction of fortified and defensive buildings. Partly destroyed during the Hundred Years War in the mid-14th century, it recovered some prosperity in the 19th century thanks to the cultivation of strawberries. The guinguettes then settled in Igny, offering life and entertainment to a community still very appreciated today.
Fruit lovers will be able to discover the production sites of Igny, while lovers of old stones will find their happiness in this green and preserved city.
