Tourism, holidays & weekends guide in the Calvados

Common located in the heart of Calvados, in full Normandy, Ifs takes place in the plain of Caen, on the border of the present regional capital. It is not far from Fleury-sur-Orne, Hérouville-Saint-Clair and Cormelles-le-Royal, just a few kilometers from the coast of the Channel and the famous landing beaches.

Populated as early as the 5th century BC, as evidenced by the discovery of a final Hallstatt cemetery, the city of Ifs developed over the centuries to take on its present, dynamic and modern face. The Norman city enjoys the proximity of Caen and its attractiveness, as well as an important and developed cultural life.

Ifs still enjoys a charming architectural heritage to discover during holidays in this part of Normandy.

Things to see and do

Since the late 1970s, the town hall takes place in the former farm Saint-Bernard and his dwelling house, eighteenth century buildings completely renovated.

The church of Ifs, former property of the Saint-Etienne abbey of Caen, was built in the course of the thirteenth century. The building was rebuilt in Romanesque style in the second half of the 19th century. One can notably admire an entrance porch, a pulpit, a part of the belfry, as well as a high altar classified with the Historical Monuments.

On the town, it is still possible to admire Hallstattian burials of the fifth century BC, as well as Frankish and Saxon burials from the fifth to the seventh century.

A 32-hectare forest was planted in the early 1990s to become a hotspot for recreation and entertainment for Ifs and surrounding residents.
