The airport of Toulon-Hyères is located on the town of Hyères, a few kilometers east of Toulon, on the Var coastline.
It was created in 1966 following an agreement between the department's Chamber of Commerce and the Ministry of Defense, which agreed to sell some 35 hectares of its naval base established since 1925. Since 1967, a first civilian scheduled flight linking Toulon to Lyon was done.
Since then, the number of flights and passengers has steadily increased, which has helped to relieve the traffic recorded in Marseille and Nice, especially for tourists or businessmen wishing to stay on the Côte d ' Azure.
Managed by the Vinci Group since 2015, the airport has two 1.9 km long and 2.1 km long asphalt runways.
In 2018, 570,000 passengers were counted, not counting private planes and helicopters. Some 10 airlines offer regular flights all year (especially to and from Paris airports) or in season (from and to Benelux or Great Britain).
