Huanne-Montmartin is a commune in the Doubs department, in the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region, 12 km north of Baume-les-Dames.
Oscillating from 283 to 415 meters above sea level, its 3.4 km² territory is dotted with valleys through which the Céleri, Monot and Préseny rivers flow, which converge to form the Crenu to the west.
The locality which has preserved green landscapes (agricultural areas represent 48% of its area, meadows 37% and forests 15%) is made up of two entities that merged in 1910.
Historically, a village was first formed within the walls of the fortress of Montmartin, built from the early Middle Ages on a rocky outcrop overlooking the Crenu. The lords of Montmartin later founded a priory which would become the parish of Huanne, to the northeast… A village had in fact developed around the small monastery.
Nowadays, the town which has a hundred inhabitants highlights its bucolic environment and thanks to the establishment of a campsite on the edge of ponds, in the north of the territory, it has an offer of "nature" leisure which deserves attention...
In terms of heritage, the town of Huanne has a site of choice thanks to the Saint-Jean church. Although the building was restored in 1858, it has retained an original Romanesque portal (13th century). A stained glass window in the choir also dates from this period, but it is only visible from the outside. Finally, we observe that the church has a bell tower-porch from the 15th and 16th centuries topped with an imperial dome characteristic of the region. It culminates at 25 meters in height. Inside the building, there is beautifully carved furniture, especially in the choir.
The church is the only testimony to the medieval priory founded by the lords of Montmartin. The latter who dominated the land (known as the Val de Montmartin) from their medieval fortress had to suffer the horrors of the Ten Years' War at the end of which the province was attached to France. Thus, the first castle was set on fire in 1639 by Swedish mercenaries before King Louis XIV demanded its dismantling. A new neo-classical castle was rebuilt in 1735, consisting of a three-storey main building (the second floor being attic) framed by wings at right angles. Surrounded by a park, the building with beautiful vaulted cellars has been restored. Recently acquired, it is open to visitors and hosts receptions or seminars. Then place the "sports and nature" activities possible in the locality.
At the Bois de Reveuge campsite, in the north of the territory, holidaymakers have an aquatic center available with fun equipment and a mini-golf course. Information on +33 3 81 84 38 60.
On the neighboring ponds where swimming is not recommended, visitors can practice canoeing and fishing is authorized (however comply with the regulations in force): information on +33 3 81 84 27 98.
There remains the significant potential that hiking enthusiasts can take advantage of on Huanne-Montmartin.
Loops can include the banks of different rivers or the wooded hillsides of valleys. A route is also dedicated to the Augier fountain, of ancient origin, located on a Roman road about ten minutes' walk from Montmartin, where it was for a long time the only source of drinking water...
Other paths of larger scale can finally lead to the course of the Ognon in the north and the tourist complex of the Val de Bonnal or, in the south, towards Baume-les-Dames.
