Castle of Guise

Monument in Guise

A former fortified castle from the 10th century, the castle of Guise was completely transformed in the 16th century, becoming a bastioned fortress later, remodeled by Vauban. Today in ruins, it benefits from a classification as a Historic Monument.

Theater of more than 1000 years of military history, it is accessible to the public from the top of its rocky outcrop overlooking the Oise valley. Still visible today, the feudal castle reveals in particular high curtain walls connected by circular towers, as well as a dungeon. The castle of Guise also reveals the location of the old gates, as well as the remains of the 16th century fortress.

Visitors can explore the Alouette bastion, the Charbonnière bastion, the Haute Ville bastion, the carriage entrance, the old arsenal and even the underground passages. Educational workshops and cultural activities are regularly offered there.
