The castle of the Selve is located in the municipality of Grospierres, in Ardeche, 15 km west of Vallon-Pont-d'Arc.
Its origin dates back to the thirteenth century, then the case of a strong house located on the borders of the kingdom of France. Under the old regime, the property becomes a simple but extensive hunting lodge belonging to the powerful family of the Dukes of Joyeuse, who have authority over the Vivarais. The castle, damaged, is only the seat of a single farm after the Revolution but the area found acclaim in the twentieth century. Indeed, it is now at the center of a large farm specializing in the production of organic wines on some 40 hectares. The site also houses lodges and guest houses.
Sitting on the banks of the Chassezac, a tributary of the Ardèche, the castle of the Selve is in the form of sober appearance of buildings arranged in a rectangle to form a courtyard. Corner towers give it a postcard appearance.
