Ski resort since 1965... It was in autumn 1965 that, under the impetus of the Mayor of the time, Mr Emile Mouttet, the ski resort was inaugurated. The first pre-season preparations were set up on the city's sector, the historic site of the Alpine ski area of Gresse. The first ski lifts were installed, tourist residences were built, and gradually the resort grew to 19 alpine ski runs, 40 km of cross-country skiing and about 2,500 tourist beds. From a "village" to a "resort" to become a real "village resort" in 40 years of a formidable collective adventure.
Cradle of the Resistance: As early as 1943, the Resistance was organized in the Vercors massif. In the heart of the forests, a dozen maquis exist. At the beginning of 1944, they gathered 400 to 500 civilians and soldiers, often very young, supplied by a generally favorable population and supplied with weapons by Allied parachutes. The inhabitants of Gresse-en-Vercors participated in these operations, notably in the battles of Pas de la Ville, Pas de Berrièves and Pas de l'Aiguille. Thirty resistant "Gressots" are commemorated on the two monuments that are in the village and the city of Gresse-en-Vercors.
