Grand-Fort-Philippe

Situated at the mouth of the Aa, on the North Sea, the city of Grand-Fort-Philippe no shortage of tourist and heritage attractions.

On its territory, the town of Grand-Fort-Philippe houses an interesting museum of the sea and rescue. Boasting an important link with fishing and the sea, the city retraces the great moments of rescue at sea with a beautiful collection of objects as a restored boat. The museum also has a fine exhibition on the history of cod fishing trips in Iceland, as well as small businesses of the coast. Not far it is possible to complete the tour of the lighthouse with the rise of the city, or discovering the Tourville space with its life-size vessels construction site.

While walking in the city or by the sea, you can admire the Church of Our Lady of Grace, built in 1860 and therefore some stained glass windows represent a miraculous catch a view of Grand-Fort-Philippe and that a picture of Jesus calming the storm, or the house of the rescue, all red brick and built in 1937. A Calvary marine honors the men of the city, including a commemorative plaque installed in 1947.

All year, the city of Grand-Fort-Philippe offers a market on Monday from 7 am to 13h. An art market and crafts also takes place at the beginning of July.

On the same model as that of Dunkirk, the town offers to Tuesday Gras, a fiery carnival. However, no herring jet Grand-Fort-Philippe but the stake of a giant crafted by the municipality.

Summer is particularly lively in Grand-Fort-Philippe and the seaside resort of Gravelines. From July to August, protests are linked to the delight of young and old. It is thus possible to attend a night sellout, to discoveries tours, workshops for children, fireworks of July 13, or a sports tournament of beach volleyball. On July 14, the city also offers a parade with firefighters and other military vehicles.

At the end of August, the city of Grand-Fort-Philippe offers sound and light on his past of fishermen. The same month, it also offers a kite festival, a chance to see all these colors in the sky.
