Nestling in the Doubs valley, the French-Swiss village of Goumois is a very popular stopping point with fly fishing, canoeing and hiking enthusiasts.
The scenic Goumois coastal road, which overhangs the River Doubs, offers a beautiful view of the roofs of the village and the magnificent surrounding nature.
Franco-Swiss pearl of the Pays Horloger, Goumois takes place between France and Switzerland, separated by the Doubs which acts as a border. The town is located between the Pays de Montbéliard region, the Doubs valley, the Maîche plateau and the Three Lakes region in Switzerland.
Of ancient origin, the commune of Goumois was the property of the priory of Lanthenans from the 12th century. It passed into the hands of the Counts of Montbéliard thereafter. Nestled today in the heart of its pretty little valley, the city has become a paradise for fishermen and hikers. Descents by canoe or kayak are also very popular in order to admire the Rocher du Singe or to take a short picnic break.
With its traditional architecture, the Church of the Nativity of Notre-Dame is not lacking in charm. It has several elements listed in the Palissy database such as reliquaries, chalices, altar candlesticks or a casket with holy oils.
Passing through Goumois, be sure to take the bridge over the Doubs which serves as the border between France and Switzerland or climb to one of the belvederes which offer unique viewpoints over the Gorges du Doubs and the Swiss Jura.
Several hiking or mountain biking trails allow you to enjoy small quiet corners inaccessible by road, such as waterfalls or the Hermitage cave.
The more adventurous can take the Ladders of Death, installed in a wild and magnificent site.
