Located in the town of Gorges du Tarn Causses, in Lozère, the Château de Prades was built at the beginning of the 13th century. Having become the property of the prior of Sainte-Enimie a few years later, it effectively resisted attacks by Protestants during the wars of religion before being sold as national property to the French Revolution.
Overlooking the gorges of the Tarn, on its rocky outcrop, the castle of Prades, now in ruins, now presents its visitors with a main building, a chapel and the remains of a surrounding wall which still delimits the old courtyard. A large square tower still has old elements on its ground floor.
This private property is now subject to registration as a Historic Monument and is not accessible to the public.
