Glénouze name goes back to the Roman times and the word "Glenosa" would consist of "glenâre" (glean) and "dared" (field). The site had to be made up of fertile land. Several other references show the evolution of the name "Glenossa" around 1060, "Glenosse."
To 1115-1146, "Glenossa" in 1383, "Glenousse" in 1429, "Our Lady of the Fontenellles Glenouse" in 1752. In the state of Poitou by Louis 14th in 1664, had 49 parishes, Loudunais "Glenouse." Former site of a manor, fief dependent on the castle of Loudun, he would hold high justice who reported to the king, and who have been delegated to the family Gouffier the 14th century.
