Located in the heart of the Entre deux Mers, on the right bank of the Garonne and on both sides of the Dropt common Gironde offers an area of 884 hectares a wide variety of landscapes.
The Bishop of Bazas quotes castral town "Villa Nova" in 977. Henri III, King of England, stayed there in 1242 and established a camp in 1243 during the insurrection of Gascon lords. Later, the village up to the house of Albret. In 1524 the plague decimates half the population of the village and its surroundings. During the Wars of Religion in 1562 Montluc, marshal, hanged 70 Huguenots in the hall of the village. The municipality was created in 1790. It becomes particularly industrious with making tiles and tile called "Gironde", terracotta, from local clays.
The village was under the old system the name of Gironde and that of Port-Libre in 1792 and the Gironde-Saint Petronilla then becomes Gironde before taking its present name in 1968, Gironde-sur-Dropt.
How come Gironde-sur-Dropt?
By car:
From Bordeaux, take the A631 towards "Toulouse, Pau and Agen" highway. Go through the toll St Selve. Exit direction "Langon." Take the N113 for a distance of 15 km, direction "La Réole."
From Agen, take the N21, take the A62 motorway towards "Bordeaux, Toulouse, Montauban." Follow the direction of Bordeaux. 2 possibilities: Exit direction "Marmande", continue towards the city center direction N113. Skip Réole continue for 5 km. Or exit direction "Bazas, Libourne, Réole." Move towards Réole. Take Réole center, pass the docks, continue straight on at least 3 km.
By train:
Line Bordeaux-Agen: A stop is made at Gironde.
