Situated in the Gard department, the village of Générargues takes place in the Cevennes. Bordering Anduze, city known for its high-quality pottery, it is in the district of Ales, large tourist city of the department.

The existence of the village is mentioned Générargues from the thirteenth century, showing a rather ancient history. Today, the town is best known for hosting in it the bamboo Prafrance, a large exotic garden popular with tourists.

Things to see and do

A natural and architectural paradise, the small town of Générargues attracts always a bit more visitors.

The bamboo plantation of Prafrance, listed historical monument, is the most popular attraction of the village of Générargues. Grand more of thirty-four hectares, this exotic garden is unique in Europe because of its size. Open to the public, it was created in 1856 and is also classified Remarkable Garden. One can in particular discover a forest of giant bamboo, a Japanese-inspired maze, a Laotian village, a floral garden, greenhouses nineteenth century, a Japanese garden, or ponds.

Former Mecca of spinning, village Générargues present today old factories and other silk farms. Those Bonifas, Boisset, Eugene Campredon Thérond and are thus included in the general inventory of cultural heritage.

On the town, we also note a flour mill and a flour mill. Both returned to the general inventory of cultural heritage of Languedoc-Roussillon, they date back to the first of the nineteenth century and the second sixteenth.

Now a forge, the former Catholic church still reveals a few charms, like the present church which dates from the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. A Protestant church of the nineteenth century is also present in the territory of Générargues.
