Things to see and do

By visiting Marche, you can enjoy its medieval heart as well as some strong houses that line the town. But its main attraction surely is its castle from the early fourteenth century which was then part of the defense line of the counts of Savoy. Many times altered, it takes place at the end of a promontory and consists of three buildings in U. It remains famous for its incredible ballroom renovated in the late eighteenth century and now classified as an historic monument. Long nearly twenty meters wide and almost fifteen, it extends over two floors with its wrought iron gallery of Louis XVI style. You can admire paintings in trompe l'oeil of Galliari brothers and imitations of ancient statues. Walking through the town, be sure not to admire the paper mill Tourne or browse the hiking trails of the National Nature Reserve of Hauts de Chartreuse which is part of the Regional Natural Park of Chartreuse. Les Abymes and Lake St. Andrew are particularly popular among tourists.

Francin also has a beautiful architectural heritage to discover during a stay in the region. Former appointment of hunting built in the second half of the eighteenth century, the castle of Carron has notably been the property of the Empire Marshal Peter Decouz whose descendants are still present. Partly listed historic monument, it can be visited by the public who particularly appreciate the romantic park and French garden. Be sure not to appreciate the Leschaud of fifteenth century farmhouse, the current municipal library that takes place in the old school of the nineteenth century, communal ovens or the church. From the second half of the nineteenth century, it has beautiful stained glass windows. The museum of viticulture nicely traces the history of wine in the region.
